DIY

There are many ways to create the backdrop for your Twitter page. If you’re even slightly comfortable with photo editing programs, the task is easy. If not, you can always hire a designer to do it for you. So, which will it be Do-It-Yourself or Hire a Designer?

Do-It-Yourself

Three basic suggestions to get a head start on your unique Twitter background:

  1. Make it consistent looking with your site/blog if you have one. Consistency simplifies recognition of your unique style across all your web identities.
  2. Make the background large enough (I would suggest at least 2560 pixel wide) to fill the large screens and/or blend it seamessly with a selected background color.
  3. Make sure your background looks good and makes sense on the smaller resolution screens, say at 1024 pixel wide by 768 pixel high, especially if you have an information rich one. With the increasing popularity of light small screened netbooks, you probably wouldn’t want your important contact info being covered by the twitterstream.

Going to have to link this page, really informative. I think with all the press Twitter is getting over Mumbai and the Hudson river aircrash, it’s going to get a whole lot bigger. Who knows, clients may even start taking an interest …
